O Gauge Figures For A Big Layout!

#1

Post by Pannier Tank » Fri Nov 30, 2018 3:45 pm

I recently had the honour of being asked to join a small group of very talented and highly skilled railway modellers (they obviously needed to lower the tone of the group) who have built a truly stunning O gauge lay out.

They are constantly improving it, although it is already close to being perfect, and are looking to add a greater population of figures. Having searched high and low for a good figure painter they decided to settle on a very average one instead and have asked me to do it.

There are all ready a fair few figures on the lay out and although nicely painted, were in need of some TLC, so I work on those figures when I am at the meets and I am also painting new figures at home.

There are a lot to do but I am really looking forward to the task ahead. I will keep you up to date with my progress via this thread.

Below are the first couple I am doing, they are a loco crew that I am painting up to look like factory workers or trades men. I have repositioned their arms because I want to add them to the interior of the pub and they need to be holding pint glasses, one of whom will be resting his arm on the bar. They are both still very much work in progress.

John.

Well if you're average I don't know where on the scale I would be. Probably not even on it. Can't wait to see the finished pieces.

Anyone else think that chap in the cap looks like Popeye?

Oh dear Mr Capp, I think you are in hot water!

Having set off to the corner shop at mid day for a bag of spuds, Andy had 'accidently' wandered into the pub. 5 hours later he remembered he had been sent out to fetch some thing but for the life of him he could not remember what.
Undeterred he wobbled out of the pub and thought it prudent to buy Mrs Capp a bunch of flowers, just in case.

Having purchased the said flowers he thought he would have time for 'One more'. Which turned into three when one of his mates sat on the flowers....

Here we see his happy home coming, flowers in hand (shame you have them upside down Andy) he is looking forward to his jacket spud and black pudding tea. I think Mrs Capp is none to impressed!

First photo is before shadowing, the rest are taken after. I still have to paint Andy's face.

Washing Day For 'Fag Ash Lill' and a tattoo for Mack.

Clothes are made from tissue paper, painted in various colours mixed with varnish to give a wet look. Her trade mark fag is a tiny piece of staple.

Is the chap on the right in the first pic the local shop steward on his way to front the foreman over a grievance? ;)
