Re: Loco repair

I had this problem with a Hornby Schools class. Hornby said send it in and they'll do it and didn't charge me! Worth giving them a call.

Re: Plywood types and sizes...

I would recommend 9mm Birch plywood, but I would also suggest having it cut to size by the merchant. They usually have cutting machines that will do that in minutes for no additional cost, and will allow you to take the boards home in the car.

Re: Pushing a CMX

I also have no inclines and I top-and-tail my CMX with two class 73s just like they do today with RHTT trains. Means I can reverse the train easily without any problems with derailing etc.

Re: LED Striplights

Just bought a couple of these for the house. They're LED in Warm White and are a complete replacement for our existing ones. Not only do they use a fraction of the electricity of the old ones, they start immediately, are only 1 inch/2.5cm depth and fit flush to the ceiling. Useful if you have limite...

Re: Peco points spring install

Why not just ask the Peco Technical Bureau if they will repair them? I recently had two double slips fail because the blades became loose in the tie-bars after many years use, and kept popping out causing derailments. Peco said send them to us and we'll fix them. They replaced the blades and tie-bar...

Re: New Hornby 2019 models - Price comparison.

Boxshifters are limited to a maximum 10% discount which is why their prices are all the same. I believe this restriction is for a limited period from when a new model is first available.

Re: Solenoid Power Supply : plaited 3 wire

At over £1 per metre it does not come cheap. Solenoid motors have been around for decades so why has this need not been realized before? As you say, I suspect it's purely marketing... Even with just 4m length, factor in the motor cost, accessory switch if using live frogs, CDU etc. then a much bette...

Re: Keep accessory BUS signal Clean

I would also recommend talking to DCC Concepts about the problem. This issue has been reported elsewhere with these motors and they may well have a solution for it. Generally speaking, bus terminators (or snubbers) should only really be needed with longer bus lengths, typically more than 30ft in len...

Re: Saphire Decoder

The Zimo MX638D is a better decoder than the Lenz and also much cheaper at £20.
