The rails are much thicker and taller than later track. They will also be made of steel as opposed to nickel silver so will be harder to clean and prone to rust. I think you can get a short conversion track but you will need quite a few if you intend to use modern points and curves etc. My advice is...

Using a chainsaw on an OO model would translate to a couple of missing fingers at the very least.
