Re: WEST ORTON

Thanks for the comments chaps. Quite pleased how it turned out in the end. I did forget to fit those X shaped fixings for through bolts that you often see on older structures - I put that right this morning. :D At some point I will fit some lighting but will likely leave that until I have a few more...

Re: A new phrase for your lexicon!

IMO its not up to modern standards at all. :o To expect anyone to unsolder wires from a locos factory fitted PCB, remove the PCB and then solder wires to those left is totally unacceptable, regardless of skill level! I have just read the press release again. I thought the PCB was provided to allow ...

Re: WEST ORTON

Final touches applied to the shed. An overall wash of blue/grey, wiped off before it could dry. Window frames painted and glazed with Glue n Glaze (still drying). I also added facial and guttering with downpipes made from copper wire. Door mouldings do come with the kit but they are a bit thick and ...

Re: A new phrase for your lexicon!

I had one of the ‘original’ M7 locos by Dapol. I fitted a micro decoder by hard wiring and putting it low down in the cab.
It would appear that all Dapol have done is make the same conversion slightly easier by opening up the space in the bunker.

Hardly something to shout about.

I know what you mean. No this is just random diagonals prior to adding a dark wash.

Re: WEST ORTON

My version of ‘dazzle’ camouflage applied and picked out a few blocks and the window surrounds in different shades. This can dry for a few hours and then I will start the dirty wash. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51336581658_e90e14f62f_b.jpg 2021-07-26_02-30-55 by Steve Mumford , on Flickr

Re: WEST ORTON

The roof vents have been reduced in height so they no longer resemble kennels big enough for a family of grizzly bears. But I have made a big but not insurmountable mistake - after I fixed them in place I realised that painting them will be a right P.I.T.A. :? Sadly removing them isn’t an option as ...

For cheap and cheerful have a look at Hatton’s own brand. Rails of Sheffield also have their own brand but I have yet to try them.
