I think I will toss them in the bin with the lights, They are quite bulky and heavy anyway
I have a couple of PSUs from laptops I can use instead.

As a get you home trick, remove the tip, cut a length of earth wire from domestic cable bend it double hammer the end to a reasonable point and attach it to your iron with a small jubilee clip.

If cutting Perspex with a jig saw, lay-down masking tape and draw your measured lines on it. When you cut it the masking tape stops the perspex "welding" behind the blade. The only problem I see is it uses a heat gun to carry out making the joint, I have yet to come across a heat gun that is powerful enough to melt good quality solder, it must be very low melting point "solder" otherwise the shrink tube would burn!
