Don't worry about the glowing firebox in the Princess, it runs straight from the pickups. On DCC that means it will always be lit. Controlling by a Function output allows it to be turned Off when the loco is stabled. :D My recommendation is either from Lenz or Zimo. Best decoders I've come across t...

There is no "Standard" track spacing around a platform, as island platform widths can be variable, from say 50mm to 110mm wide in OO scale. Slaters Mek Pak or EMA Plastic Weld are both great thin liquid solvents, applied with a small artist type brush.
They work by melting the two plastics to form a solid bond.

RFID tags and track mounted readers are one way of both real time positioning and actual loco type detection.

Looking at the service sheet that is going to need some very careful insulating of the two motor brush connections from the rest of the loco. These MUST be totally isolated before the Orange and Grey wires of decoder are connected to them.
