Re: Loco only runs in one direction, and at full speed.

Next 18 is almost foolproof by being reversible. The pins are mirrored in duplicate to handle the electrical loads. Most runaway problems are due to DC running being enabled in CV29. In this case a dirty or intermittent contact could disrupt the DCC signal resulting in the decoder going into DC mode...

Re: Footy or tennis or both?

Snetterton was the same - a great experience in the old days when you could wander anywhere and chat with the guys working the cars, but nowadays its all pay more to get close.
Cadwell Park was a favourite of mine as it was compact with some great viewing points.

Re: Your latest acquisition

I presumed the ref to pictures was part of the seller to buyer dialogue, not to any included in the post.

Not sure that is the correct face for a Sphynx. It looks more like my Aunt Ethel.

These two are keeping me out of the train room - 100% supervision necessary at all times.

Re: consists

Whilst a rolling road is great for many things, you cannot ‘load’ a loco like you can on track. The rolling resistance is virtually nil and cannot really be increased, hence setting inertia, bemf, etc is not going to pan out exactly as it will track.

Re: consists

I assume one would need some electeical connection between ones decoder and the computer? Never tried a computer to program a decoder. Yes the controller needs to be connected to a PC running JMRI/decoder pro. This connection tends to use a USB cable. Some controllers not equipped with a USB port c...

Ditto the amazing tech and without expanding on the politics of it ditto the foreign aid.
Similarly at home - don't give them real money, give them ‘vouchers’ or goods in kind, if at all.

Re: consists

If the decoders support it you can start by matching the three point speed table - CVs 2, 5 and 6 or if possible using Decoder-Pro or similar go for a full blown speed step by speed step side by side calibration, but a lot depends upon the mechanical state of the consist locos.

Re: Club discount

I notice the club membership fee across brands equates to the approx price of the ‘free’ model.
Yes I realise you get extras like the magazine and discount, etc but the fee all seems a bit too cut and dried.
