Mountain Goat is an unknown quantity at this point
Default High Level Shelf Layouts.

I was looking at this idea as it is a good idea for those who may find difficulty in finding space for a layout and may not have the opportunity to venture out in the garden.
A high level or ceiling layout works better in the larger scales but has been successful in H0 and 00. One needs to have good trackwork and reliable stock. This is where those deep flanges may come in handy, but as long as the loco, coach or wagon is not prone to leaving the rails you are OK.(I would add a lip to the side of a shelf if I made one).
Done right, one does not need much in the way of scenery as it is the locomotives and their trains which are the main focal point. A backscene may work, though it may not depending on the look one hopes to achieve.
Take a look at this link to show a possibility. This long train is riding over rails made to blend in so they look like rails for the light fixtures. Enjoy!
