Hello all.

I am a new member just starting out in this fantastic hobby.

I had a couple of trainsets as a kid, but never really went any further than a basic small loop. Most of my locos and rolling stock at the moment are just what I had as a kid.

Due to a lack of space currently and being very eager to try my hand at railway modelling I have only built a small 4ft x 2ft layout. This has been mainly used to try different techniques and learn from my mistakes (of which I have made a few). For example using mdf as a base board and not fixing Batons to the bottom. Whoops.

I think the direction I will take will be a modular layout. This way I can work on small sections at a time and be able to store it in a smaller space.

I look forward to sharing my project and gaining input and advice on better ways to do things.

I will include a few pictures of my “tester” layout.

James.

Hi James - welcome to the forum. Most of your "tester" layout looks better than my old permanent one! Look forward to hearing more from you in due course - perhaps when this lovely weather draws to a, hopefully temporary, close. R-

Hi James - Welcome to the forum. From your "tester" layout you've obviously got the right idea - can't wait to see more. Any questions - ask away. BB

A tester layout is a brilliant idea. Mistakes are part of learning.
An expert makes mistakes. Is just that he or she knows how to correct their mistakes and cover the evidence that they had made them!

Hello James, we have similar names. I have yet to get some track laid but I am getting there . I am enjoying the journey and it looks like you are also. That is a very nice tester layout .

thanks for the warm welcome and the nice comments.

This little layout has been great for me to sink my teeth into the hobby with the little space I currently have and have already been dreaming up big ideas for a layout when I have the space. I guess with a model railway I’m always going to want a bigger layout haha.
