Default Hello from the Midlands (UK)

H all,

I've recently moved house and now have the luxury (if that's the right thing to say?) of having a loft which I have already boarded out and built baseboards - it's approx 17' x 9' (or 5.2m x 2.8m). I have purchased some track (OO Gauge Peco Code 75), but I am still working on a track plan... I know what I want, but it's making it a reality which i'm having trouble with!

I had a small railway on a single baseboard about 10 years ago when I was in my mid-teens, but now I have more space and time I am getting back in to it again.

I'm hoping to go down the DCC route, but my knowledge is somewhat limited so hopefully i'll pick up some helpful info on here.

Anyway, i'll stop rambling now and instead look forward to reading your posts and contributing where I can.

Scott.

Welcome and I hope you enjoy your time here, these guys on this forum know their stuff and are very friendly.

I cant wait to see what progress you make on your layout.

Throw some track down and give it a whirl.

Welcome Scott. Get some track down on the boards. Sketch the things you want, station, turntable, canal, goods yard, engine sheds etc.

Hello Scot and welcome to the forum. Sounds like you have a good head start and a good space to play with. Funny enough I have just moved into a new cottage with roof small roof bedroom. Nice and comfy with radiator and carpet laid. So we are building sort of together this summer.
Do you have a plan in mind already. That is half the battle.

Hi Scot and welcome. Sounds as if you have the perfect space there. Have you decided what you want to achieve from your layout? Which area/region, which era, steam, diesel or electric? Just so much to consider when planning a layout. Anyway good luck with it.

I would like to incorporate a coal mine somewhere and so would also need an area for shunting. Ideally a loco brings loaded wagons from the mine to a siding, where they are picked up by a main line loco and taken away.

My preference is steam, but as I have a few diesel loco's, 95% of my collection would fit the 1960's era, during the transition from steam to diesel. On a bit of an oddball, I have the Class 158 and 221 so was hoping to incorporate them somehow. One thought I have is to build the layout based on the 1960's, but have an elevated track section running around the perimeter where the modern trains can run - I just don't know how I will achieve it yet...

I would also like to include a turntable and possibly some carriage sidings, where a small engine could collect coaches to take to a platform and them the main line engine would connect up. Then the same in reverse.

Just a few ideas...

Have a modern railway with a heritage railway then you can run anything. The coal mine could be a museum.

Hello Scot and welcome to the site.
That sounds like a very nice size and location you have there so you can spend your time getting down to .... I was going to say brass tacks... but perhaps it's nickle rails, right away . It will be nice to see what you decide.
