On this loco it is likely to be due to the position of the firebox. I believe I have one of these chassis with its wheels and motor intact. Its only looking at yours that I realize the model of the loco it has come from. I'm planning to use it on a 7mm narrow gauge future project.

That brought back a few memories. I remember setting up the steering on them.

The locos look fabulous, It's a pity to dirty them at all .

Nice job Wolie, Weathering mmmmmmmmmmm. Personally I would not weather them. But it is all a matter of taste.
I have seen lots of models ruined by weathering attempts.
