Some inner city areas arenít too bad for pics, this is one in the centre of Rochester a few years ago.

Picture three could almost be the 1960's with no hi-viz clothing by footplate man, save for the merest intrusion by the Mark 2 coach.

Looks more like a Mk1 to me. No rounded edges.

The support coach is a mark 2a brake according to the vintage carriages trust website, number 17096. Was built in 1968, too late for BR Southern steam.

Maybe it’s at the other end

Looks like a Mk1 in the second picture. Same loco on the front. I thought Mk 2's had rounded corners if you see what I mean. Proper term escapes me.

EDIT: now I see they don’t. Ignore me. Nice pictures.


Didn’t the Mk2 coach exist in the 60's?

Yes, introduced about 1965 - the first batch for the Southern were green

All Mk2s had rounded ends, and roofs, (I can't remember the proper term either)

Right, so the one in the picture isnít a Mk2 as far as I can see.
