Another forum I visit also uses the 'donate' option and it seems to work for them.
Members their also offer unwanted items as 'free to a good home' from time to time, and the recipients often make a donation to the forum in return.
It's not a compulsory requirement but I've noticed similar offers of free stuff on here, so maybe that could work here too?

That seems mighty expensive for hosting. I have a few websites hosted on 1&1 and pay nowhere near that.

The donation system does seem a good idea. However, if it was to be a fee I would rather pay a yearly charge than a monthly.

I was being very conservative on the pricing... mainly due to the fact I don't know what monthly bandwidth the site requires to run.

I think a donation option would be worth looking into , as that seems to be a popular option.

I just feel it's important that the community find a way to chip in for the costs of running it.

As i see it the only way to do this is. When members put loco's up for sale they are listed for free. When sold the forum takes 10% of the total price . This will be less then Ebay at 15%. Why should this service be free

And who would keep tabs on the amount due, Flash Bang and any other Mods won't want to take on the extra for them unpaid work, i haven't seen Flash Bang indicate there's a need for extra revenue anyway, maybe somebody should ask this question before all these ideas come forth......

I don't publish the price I charge if I sell something. Exchange of emails and it's done.

I know what you mean Tinker but I think it is great that all these ideas are coming from Members so that if the site owner feels that he needs some input there is a starting point for him. R-

Hope this doesn't happen, I shan't be selling anything else if it does.
