Surely if it has a socket it will be visible, not the sort of thing you can hide or would want to hide.

It looks to me as though this model should have a 21 pin decoder socket fitted (somewhere). If this is not fitted, I suspect some subterfuge somewhere along the line.

yes there should be, I think it is located there because the bonnets cover the circuit boards and probably also to keep the cab free.
