I don't know, i really don't understand it.

I literally run my finger along the track and i get a black line over my finger. One time i cleaned the whole lot with track magic and cotton buds and the next day NEXT day it was filthy again after i spent 45 mins running in my Thompson L1. I then cleaned it with a cloth and track magic and that cleaned it better, haven't cleaned it since then and that was a few weeks ago. But i run my finger along the track and it is dirty.

I mean, i don't run my trains that much at all.

I just don't get it... Is it because of my locos being new? Are they greased from the factory? And thats making the track dirty? Is it the track magic stuff ive been using? Should i use straight IPA?

Im so confused.

Nope... And most of my rolling stock has metal wheels. I haven't been running much rolling stock though as i have other problems with metal wheels shorting on my points.

My new locos run beautifully I'm pretty sure it isn’t the locos at fault. Don’t bother with expensive bottles of track cleaning fluid use IPA.

I have an almost full bottle of Track Magic, it was a gift and is hopeless. Just my view.

Yeah was going to buy some this week...

But yeah, just not enjoying spending so much time on maintenance. And when i do anything or don't run anything on the layout for a few days i come back and stuff seems to run poorly again.

Bit frustrating really.

Peco streamline.

I dunno, just had a running session now and things weren't too bad. My L1 was really hesitant on some bits of track and some points but after a couple of minutes it seem to be running ok.

My ancient pannier was fine, no issues.

My 08 is not happy. It doesn't stall but it honestly runs like i has oval wheels or something. Its brand new! It rubber bands along at anything above say 20/128 speed steps.

Maybe it is just that I haven’t run some of these locos much especially the new ones. I ran the 08 in for maybe 20 minutes and it hasn’t had any running other than that. The L1 has probably had an hour max of total running

You didn't run them in?
Specifications say half hour each forward and then same backwards at a moderate speed, but it won't ever hurt to do more.

Run for 30 minutes at medium speed with no wagons. Pick it up turn it round and run it in reverse. Make sure the track is perfectly flat, check it with the edge of a steel rule.
