There was a triangle (might still be there, I haven't been there for about 50 years) at both the East and West ends of Gateshead shed (52A)
Also there is a triangle to the east of Salisbury. One side was lifted donkey's years ago but
was reinstated early 1980s to allow freightliners from Southampton docks another route to Basingstoke.
Just remembered there's a newly built triangle at Norton Fitzwaren, on the West Somerset Railway.

The light at the end of the tunnel is probably a train coming towards you

Penzance originally had two platforms within its canopy, between these two was another two lines, which I assume had release crossovers from the platforms. This track plan shows what a complete terminal it was, although it does not show crossovers under the canopy:

Towards the end of steam, with the demise of goods traffic and the increase in passengers, one of the two central run around lines was removed, platform one was moved to create three platforms under the canopy, with a fourth platform to the south.

This is a good selection of pictures of passenger trains at the station, showing the migration of steam to Warships and a very wide range of other engines that have visited Penzance: http://www.cornwallrailwaysociety.or...-marazion.html
Yield to temptation.
It may never come your way again!
