your not reverse biasing a pair of diodes, your forward biasing one and reversing the other at any given time. so closing one gate but avoiding damage to it by letting the current though the other.

whether or not it cuts down on the wiring is going to depend on how close the buildings are, it would work really well for lighting up the shop and then the apartment above it.
but how will this work for Thursday night late opening hours?
