Default Modular layout club formed

A new model railway club has been formed covering SE London and surrounds which addresses many of the problems of living in the confines of small spaces in large cities and wanting to build a layout. The club works on Modular layout building, using the same laser cut baseboards, back scene area and electrical connectors and track type and common track entry and exit datum point. We will operate two types, N and 00/Ho and each member can built any scene, period or type within their module, which are 1000mm x 450mm for 00/HO or 800mm x 250mm for N. A member can of course have as many modules as they wish and make a longer on themselves. The idea is all modules interlink and can form one massive layout perfect for exhibitions all with a single line track running along entire length.

Membership is being kept low at 20 per year plus a one of payment of 45 for your laser cut board and electrical connectors, we will have two mother boards at the club to take your datum marks from, we can help each other on club nights with scenics, trackwork etc and of course running! The idea is that each can fit in a boot of a car, we have free parking at the club venue, and some can also be kept here. Many can be worked on away from the club and bought and connected up on running nights.

We are using a theatre space which will open just for us and it has own bar and in the summer a nice 50ft roof terrace for some outdoor running. It is in New Cross which is zone 2 and 100 meters from New Cross BR and on major bus routes.

I know this may not be everyone's cup of tea in railway modelling, or it may be a nice diversion and a step away from your existing layout and give you a chance to be creative in a limited baseboard space. It will defo open up a new way of layout building for those with limited space at home)

Our website is and we are called SELKENT Model Railway Club

Some of the proceeds of the recent Sevenoaks show has been put back into getting this new club off the ground.

by the way, on the social side - very cheap bar for London and meantime draft on tap!

Please come and support us, our first meeting is Tues 9th Aug from 7pm to 10pm (details on website)

Advice always welcome, got some great advice on non capability of DCC consoles and will take that on board.
