Start by removing the bottom plate holding the wheels in place. Have a close look at the wheels and axles. Compare the ones that work with the ones that donít work. Whatís the difference. If it is obvious rectify the problem. If it isnít, remove the faulty set and try and find out what is fouling it. It is a simple process of working through the problem.

Thanks WTD. By bottom plate do you mean the lower part of the tender axle holder X6453 - the lower part having the BUS bars and brushes on?

Yes then you can see the whole wheel/axle sets and see what is causing it/them to bind.

Nothing further to add here as yet - haven't had time. My wife thought digging the allotment was a higher priority!

Update: I have had to push the central brushes back off the wheels and now the middle axle rolls freely. The locomotive appears to be picking up just fine. I may take the pragmatic line and just leave it alone now. Anyone have any further thoughts?
