Default Twickenham MRC's Addison Road project in 7mm

Welcome to this new thread cataloguing progress of Twickenham & District MRC's O gauge layout - Addison Road.

This is the club's most ambitious layout project ever and has demanded learning and developing many new skills and techniques. As of now (Dec 2014) the layout is operable and regular monthly running sessions are held, but it will be 18 months before the layout is completely finished to the standard of detail we are hoping to achieve.

We will post a potted history of the layout over the next few weeks, but if you're interested in 7mm modelling why not come along and see the layout for yourself. We meet on Friday nights in Whitton, Twickenham; contact the Hon.Sec. at secretary.tdmrc@gmail.com

Thanks ... this project has been about six years in the making and we have chronicled elsewhere on a week by week basis. We are currently making 'catch-ups' so to bring together the main points into 'bite-size' pieces .... will post them here ASAP.

Keep watching!

Now that is a serious bit of railway modelling.

Superb modelling.

I well remember the Oerlikon sets as a child running from Watford Junction to either Euston or Broadstreet. I lived near Bushey and Oxhey station at the time. I watched them regularly passing on the tracks next to the old LNWR main line over Bushey troughs.
They were painted either dark green or brown then I think and always seemed very luxurious with their dark covered seats and dark varnished wood interiors.
They were nicer to travel in than the Bakerloo sets, they were more like a proper train somehow.

Last Friday was a running session and one of our country members brought some SR stock along.....

The layout is built on very odd shaped boards that fit together like a jigsaw puzzle with the running tracks all laid on a central spine of 5 boards laid end to end in the conventional way. Then extra 'scenery only' boards are bolted on front and back so that the scenic section is 5 boards long and 3 boards wide in most places. This running session only saw the main running track boards up - hence the lack of scenery!
