Unhappy Time to move very sorry to say

Just started moving my railway from the loft into the garage. Dr's orders! old age does not come alone. Its be up there for 18 years and just the way I want it. 215 ft of running track and 14 sidings hiding my stock. NOW in the garage it will be approx 72 ft of running track and 7 sidings with excess stock and building etc: I known for some time that it had to come to it one day.

I'm sure you can adapt it to make it enjoyable for you; just a matter of getting it as you want it. As for aging,, well it's much better than the alternative.

Chas, feel for you. At 74, mine is still upstairs, and i have plenty of space to move into workshops, but loath to even consider. Probably would fit stair lift first. My loft, is integral part of upstairs, so no steep climb, once upstairs. Its a heartbreaking route, but may be you can update, or look at a helix to give more track potential. john

Alternative? Staying young?
I hope you get to build a layout nicer then the last one.

Not such a bad thing. I moved my big layout from the loft to a small bedroom. Started again. Made a far better job of the scenery and track laying. Really enjoyed doing it all again.

And you are not even old. Just an excuse to rebuild perhaps. I wish i had the courage to demolish, and start again. You can see with hindsight, where things could be improved. john

Perhaps it might be worth considering leaving the original in the loft and building a completely new one in the garage. Then, just for a treat, you can visit the loft very occassionally but spend most of your time with the new one.

I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed dismantling my loft layout. Saved me a fortune re-using points etc.

That of course is the point.Starting a second layout would involve a lot of cost. John

Building a new one without re-using points and track etc. is all very well if you have the funds.
