I started with cheap waggons and progressed to locos that I had no intention of using before moving on. I still want to do one more practise loco before I commit to one of my working ones so I am minimising the risk of messing up something I really like!

I haven't done a coach yet either but the same principle will apply with test pieces done before committing to an expensive coach.
