Default Kato couplers

Hi

I fairly clueless with couplers. I recently bought two 2nd hand Kato ac4400cw but dont yet have any rolling stock for them.

The couplers that are provided look like the pictures I have seen of "standard kato knuckle couplers".

I was looking at some of the rolling stock that kato offer, and all claim to have knuckle couplers, but they appear to have a barb/hook hanging out the bottom which mine do not. Is this something that is missing on mine, are they still compatible?

Also, I know its not very "in keeping" but I was look at the 8008-6 *TAKI 3000 Sekiyu Tank Wagon. I was planning on kit bashing them to turn them in to what I was looking for, but do the Kato Japan (this item in particular) have the same knuckle couplers as the US ones?

Thanks

The 'hook' hanging down is for uncoupling.

WTD is (as usual) correct, I suspect that the previous owner has cut off the trip levers either because they were causing shorts on poor track work or he was looking to obtain a more realistic representation of the actual couplings. Spare assemblies are available the servicing sheets lists them at $2.
