Default Hornby Class 60 Air horns-a long shot

Hi Everyone,
Apologies for not been on here for a while, but my mum was very poorly. Thankfully, she's much better & back home now.
I've recently picked up a nice Hornby Class 60 for a very reasonable price.
The only issue is a set on air horns at one end are broken/missing. (hence the cheaper price)
The part I'm after is X9572 or X9572G (grey) But, I've tried all the usual sources to no avail. They appear to as common as hen's teeth. If anyone's got a set, or just a pair for one will do.
My other option is the Lima or Markits or possibly A1 Models (Doncaster)
Any searches through your spares box would be much appreciated.

Hi John,
Thanks for your reply, I must admit when I first looked at their webpage the other day It looked like they were in stock. But if you 'add to basket' it comes up temporarily out of stock.
Kind Regards
John

Annoying when site are set up like and you have to go to all the trouble to email them.
I would say you have about as much chance of finding them as a packet of hens teeth.
Only thing I can suggest is to sell it and put the money towards another one which is complete. I notice there are one or two on ebay going cheap with horns missing.
John

Thank you John,
It's a very common issue, they are very fragile a couple of my older Lima one's have the same problem.
I've emailed Hornby if they intend to make any more & A1 to check if they do any in both 5 & 6mm in length. I'll keep you posted on any progress.
Kind Regards
John

On Peters Spares it say 'Temporary out of stock' if you go to their web page and search for the horns, or 'For all stock enquiries relating to this product please enter your email address below:' if you google the part number then select Peters Spares.

Same outcome, different words.

Some of the sellers say that but temporary really means nothing . I noticed that a chap on another forum was looking for these back in 2015 and found that Hornby discontinued them at that time and also had sold out.
That is what made me make the remark about hens teeth. I dont know if you can buy class 60s new, if so somebody must be making horns for them.

I agree John there is usually somebody somewhere making just about everything. I bought some CL55 horns once that were made of brass.

May I sugest.
Obtain a piece of plastic rod little larger Maybe from the Plasicard range. Now don't shoot the messenger I have not looked if they do the right one, you will have to poke around.
Cut off abou 2" lenth and put it into a drill and carefully with a fine set of small modelling files you should be able to shape something close to a horn for cab top. Once painted you will not see the difference. That will probably cost £2 or so as opposed to £140 for another loco. That is if you can find the one you want.

Are the horns unique or will the set for another diesel be OK.
