Default Live Steam

I came across some live steam locos (Accucraft?) and I find the idea fascinating. Took me back to dreaming of Mamod (I think) model engines when I was young.

Any experience here? I did a couple of searches, but nothing came up.

Thank you Mike. I am surprised there is nothing here. I realise it's not cheap, but one loco running on O gauge track (WTD , would be lovely.

Used to have a Mamod traction engine and trail or as a teenager. It ran really well on meths. Then I bought a Mamod locomotive kit. Only got it running ok just before I sold it!

I would like to try live steam somehow soon. As long as there is a steam whistle!

Any suggestions on a way forward, will be gratefully received

I have a Mamod traction engine. Still works very well, and whistles.

You can make one with the right tools this may be as cheap as buying one ready made, but you would end up with a load of tools.....

I have an Accucraft "EDRIG" which was modified to full radio control of the regulator and reverser etc running on Butane or Butane/Propane mix and its brilliant , but hard work. Like real steam , it needs regular oiling and maintainence - every trip for some things and using lime-free water ( local rainwater is ideal) . The regulator needle was changed for a finer taper so control is better. Lots of fun on SM32 though.....
