Default N Scale History - Roddy Young

Hello, I am interested (and focusing) on history of N scale Railway modelling. One big chapter in this history is N scale production of PIKO company during the time of German Democratic Republic. One of my friends gave me info about work of Mr. Roddy Young as an author of document "The history of PIKO N gauge model railways from east Germany" and gave me internet address www.RoddyInScotland.co.uk. Unfortunately this address is not active and I can not find any relating information on internet. I would like ask if somebody knows this man, have some information about this document or can give me information that can help me with searching. Thank you in advance.

The N Gauge Society might be able to help if you contact their website, they have a Continental Group who are interested in European N gauge. I think the society has over 3000 members so he could very well be one of them.

PIKO made some good stuff, for the time and price point! I owned several of their items at one time. Sadly my first 10 years worth of N gauge modelling, with some Gems of the time, was sold after a messy divorce.

Hello, I am the Roddy Young who wrote "The history of PIKO N gauge model railways from east Germany". I have just found your post in this forum.
I stopped using the website simply because it cost me too much to maintain. If you are still interested in PIKO N gauge, do please get in touch.
My interest in PIKO products started when I bought 2 locos as scrap in the 1990's. The diesel was easy to repair to working condition but the steam loco, a BR55, was much more of a challenge and I tried without success to find spares. The BR55 is a very interesting loco and, I managed to find dealers with spares in the East after the Iron Curtain opened.
From then on, I investigated PIKO's history and wrote an article which was published in "N Bahn Magazin" (issue 3, 1999). That introduced me to enthusiasts who were able to correct my mistakes! I still have a collection of PIKO N gauge, though am slowly reducing it.
