Default Copper rod from earth wire.

At a recent show I was looking for some 1.5mm copper rod - I didn't find any. My colleague told me that if I still had the copper earth wire from the cable used for my bus (which is 1.5mm) I could use that. He said put one end of the copper wire in a vice, and assuming a foot length of rod is required, measure out a foot and then wrap the wire around, say a broom handle, and pull hard. The copper wire then hardens. He did give me the technical name for the process - which I have forgotten, but he said he learnt it when working on leaded light windows. I haven't tried it yet - but worth a try before spending money.

Useful tip B.B. I think it may be called work hardening.

You should be able to manage with a pair of decent pliers and a vice. Grip the wire in the vice a pull on the other end and you end up with a perfectly straight wire and it has the same work hardening effect.
