Jim.
I have one of the older Hornby Pullmans (R4162 1st Class parlour "Minerva") and on DCC the lamps on mine are powered from the rails. I think newer ones might be from decoders.

I think all of the Hornby Pullman carriages with lights are powered from the track. I suppose you could fit a decoder so that the lights could be turned off, but you would then have to link the wiring from coach to coach - it would be an expensive operation to have a decoder in each carriage. As Cadman said the Brighton Belle carriage lights are operated via the decoder - but that is the exception. BB

Thanks both . I suppose it matters little whether it is from the tracks or the decoder from my perspective. I was asking from the technical aspect really. I am not too far from the South coast here so I suppose I could get away with the Brighton Belle . Our line was one that was closed and is now a walkway/cycle path.

I have steered away from that well known auction site because of the 'shaky' response that others have had. That said I have had three occasions when pay-pal have come to the rescue and resolved the situation in my favour (once from Amazon). I have no doubt they would do so again but I don't want the wasted time to be honest.

Donít shy away from ebay. I have bought quite a few things from them and havenít had a problem. Just read the info available and donít be an idiot and keep bidding for something at a stupid price. Itís up to you and is of no fault of the seller if the price is ridiculous. If I was selling something worth a tenner and it went for 200 quid Iíd be very happy.

OK, thanks for that input WTD. I will keep looking at them as, if I google the coach's name they invariably come up. If the price and other factors are favourable I will try them out again.

I have got a bit farther on the prep. for my railway model. Managed a bit of sorting of garage and modelling stuff and have put in the 'multi outlet' for electrickery facing me when I am sitting in the operators chair (Piccies below). It has its mains plug on the opposite wall so I have hung the cable with hooks to the multi outlet on the wall. It may have to be re-positioned when the back screen scenery is fitted. I hope to do some more tomorrow.
