Default Men In Sheds

I don't know if anyone on here has heard of this scheme, but it sounds a great idea. I don't have a shed near me regrettably, but whilst in Exeter today I found their only shop. Smashing people, very helpful and selling nearly every tool, implement and just about every other helpful device you didn't know you needed - yet. All second hand and very reasonably priced. I would recommend it to anyone near Exeter, it's near the bus terminal on the road to John Lewis. R-

I attended the first few meeting to start it in High Wycombe. The main problem is finding suitable premises. We started making bird boxes in a church hall. You had to be careful not damage anything or spill wood preserver etc. It was really a waste of time. They now have a small workshop open limited hours. I don't go any more as I have a shed but if it is organised properly it is a great idea.

Aylesbury has a great set up. They have workshops where they make theatre sets and repair trailers among other things. It is open all day every day from 10 til 9.

In Chesham near here they have a organisation called Work Aid. They renovate old tools of all types including sewing machines. They sell the tools to raise money to send to Africa.

What a cracking idea. Had to google it and I assume this is the same thing 'Men's Sheds Association'

Was just looking at that. It turns out a friend of mine who I rarely get to meet as he is quite a busy man owns the very building they do the men in sheds in my nearest location! He also owns a steam loco and a diesel along with two GUV's, and (If it is still there!) one includes a wasps nest which has been successful in the past to keep out intruders! He also bought a railway coach.

It's a great idea for those that have nowhere to make repairs or need the use of decent tools.

Our trouble was that out of the ten or so who turned up for the first meetings only a few had any tools and none had a trade of any sort.

That does kind of defeat the object, but I'm sure it will improve as news spreads like here for example.

Well I never! Just found one that's starting up about 1.5 miles from me. May well be worth a visit
