Default dcc

Hi All,
Getting a wee bit confused!! If i buy a dcc fitted/sound fitted loco with the address as 3 can i change the address to read the long address using loco number without doing anything wrong to factory fitted sound settings?
Reason i ask is,i just purchased a class 37 with sound (it is excellent) and it has address 3.I wanted to change it to loco number,so i put it on programming track and went through the procedure on my nce powercab. When i got to long address there was a four digit number(say 2552) which was flashing.Being new to this i felt unsure about what i was doing and escaped out of it.I think the flashing could mean that i could change numbers is this correct?
Thanks,
Jack

Yes Jak your correct, and changing IDs will not alter any other cvs.

It won' affect the sounds so don't worry.

Some decoders as standard accept only two digit (short) addresses but can be 'upgraded' to four digit (long) addressing if needed by changing CV29.

If you find you need to change it this calculator will help get the right value.
