Barry, with all the hard work (welding) already done, I would go for a rebuild - but keep it original. If you do it that way it will be tax exempt and, from May, MOT exempt as well (new regulations for 40 year old cars). If you change the engine for the turbo it may be classed as a ‘substantial change’ in the eyes of the DVLA and require an annual MOT.

Here’s one I prepared earlier and didn’t keep original.
