Its unlikely that you have damaged it, did it ever switch under its own power, if not then its possibly not aligned correctly. if it did then I would guess its possible you haven't wired it...

If you are running the wires from the switch to each motor there is no need to have the wires at the same length, make them the required length to neatly fit the distance they need to go

Who advised you to wire them in series, especially when the feeling here is a parallel connection will give you the same result and work better

You will be wiring them in parallel not series so you are just making joints into same wire coming from the switch and I'm sure FB will be along momentarily with a full explanation
