Lidl DIY offers 14th Jan

Just a heads up, Lidl have a number of DIY offers on this Sunday of interest to railway modellers are a Dremel like cordless tool at 18 and a 48W soldering station at 9. Cannot say what the quality is like except to say some tools I have bought from them before have been the business considering the price. The soldering station is almost a throw away price.

If it is like the cordless Dremel type I bought in Lidl couple of years ago give it a miss it was rubbish. No power at all. Get one which is mains power they are much better. Good few on E-bay. They have been recommended on here before by others. John.

Hello TD,,,,,,,,,, yes just had look at the leaflet and it does look like the useless one I bought 2 years ago except my one did not have the red cover thing on the battery. The extra tool set is a handy buy though.
I found lots of useful tools in it. John

Mod note. Two posts merged .

Also, if you're interested in anything you see advertised do check with the Lidl website that it is stocked in your local store before you travel. I went for some double sided carpet tape and aluminium foil tape advertised, only to find that the store had only ever had the duct tape in grey and black. A wasted journey.

Have you ever tried to get one to answer the phone. Even if it is in stock does not mean it will be there when you arrive. Pardon me fore saying but over the years I have found this particular company one of the most useless places to buy anything. And the word service went out the window years ago.

Out of interest has anyone used the 48W soldering station? Is it any good?

Hello Bones yes I have one of those 48 watt irons and it is very good indeed. One of Lidles better buys.
But the drill / grinder is was not very good . underpowered and the bearing at the chuck end was horribly vibrating as well. From new. You could only use it at low speed with out it vibrating.

yup. soldering station, is ok. They recently had one like a gun, with automatic solder feed. This one, is excellent. john

You're supposed to be able to find out what is stocked (not the stock level) via their website. You select a store rather than just look at the offers generally. It is supposed to indicate that the offer is in 'your' store. They won't give stock levels over the phone for individual stores, despite store staff telling me they will.

I am very sorry, but you may as well just go and have a look. Because I can't see the point of looking up the items and where they are being sold at any given branch if they cant tell you if it is in stock. You can still have a wasted journey. But do they care, NO. Thats Lidls
